Learning doesn’t just happen in lessons, it’s a constant process and one that you can help with at home! Here are just a few relaxed ways to enrich your child’s learning in everyday life:

Getting your child on board (games)!

Playing board games like scrabble or bananagrams are fantastic for building problem solving skills and games with banking or financial elements are a fun way to boost basic maths skills. It’s also a lovely way to spend time as a family (as long as no one cheats!)  One of our favourite creative projects to date was designing and making a board game with one of our primary students! It incorporated so many different subjects such as Maths, English, and Art and gave a great sense of achievement when we completed it. Why not have a go at creating your own games at home?

Get your child moving and grooving!

Exercise and play promote physical wellbeing whilst still stimulating the imagination and naturally boosting socialisation and interaction skills. We love encouraging our students to make up their own stories and dig deep into their imagination and play is the perfect time to continue building on this skill! Maybe your child is a brave knight saving a castle from a dragon with a terribly fiery sneeze or perhaps they’re a vicious Viking embarking on a treacherous voyage across the sea (with sparkly armbands on of course).

A way with words!

Something as simple as reading a book chapter or bedtime story with your child can be a wonderful way to boost language skills. We find it super helpful to ask questions during and after reading about what’s happening in the story to ensure the student understands the text or even just to find out if they’re enjoying it!

Creativity is key!

Music, drama, and art are all great ways for your child to let off steam whilst still benefiting their creativity. Why not sing along to a karaoke track together, re-enact an historic battle with nerf guns, or make Picasso-style portraits out of dried pasta!?

Get them talking!

Giving your child the chance to form their own opinions and voice their views out loud is both a confidence and a language skills booster. Invite them to take part in conversations and encourage them to ask questions about words or topics they aren’t sure about. Children are more aware than you’d first think! We love having in depth conversations with our students whether they’re 6 or 16.

Here at Learnly we take a creative and adaptive approach to teaching and aim to boost confidence through encouragement, but we also believe in having fun and absorbing knowledge from the world around us! We strongly believe that encouraging your child to learn through stimulating and creative activities at home contributes towards a well-rounded education.
